Furry Suits Rescue
wants to make sure that you adopt the cat that is right for your family, and
also that your family is right for the cat that you choose. Therefore, we ask that you read and understand our adoption
policies and procedures. You will be asked to sign a legal contract when
adopting your cat, and you will be asked for a tax-deductible donation. The donation amount helps to pay for medical expenses and
spaying/neutering.
Our policies:
- Kittens are spayed/neutered before
adoption if they are old enough. We will not place a cat in a home with an unspayed or unneutered
pet, unless there is a valid, documented health reason.
- The cat must be an indoor cat, kept
inside with you unless on a leash and accompanied.
- The cat may NOT be intended as a gift.
- Kittens less than 6 months old
will not be placed in homes with children under 6 years old.
- Kittens less than 10 months old
must be placed in pairs unless there is another friendly young cat in the
home.
- The cat may NOT be declawed for any
reason.
In addition to the
above, we reserve the right to check on an adopted cat at any time
to ensure its wellbeing. If any condition of the Adoption Contract has been
violated, or if it is the opinion of Furry Suits Rescue that the environment
is unsafe, we reserve the right to remove the cat from the home. If at any
time you cannot keep the cat, you must return it to Furry Suits Rescue, and
not to another individual or shelter.
Here is the
adoption procedure:
- Pets Allowed? - If you rent, does your
apartment or home allow cats? Landlord approval is required
for renters.
- Age - Cats of different ages have very different
requirements (e.g. kittens and older cats require extra care and
attention). Be sure you know what the requirements are for the cat that
you are interested in.
- Temperament - Does the cat have a temperament that
would be suitable for your family?
- Compatibility - Is the cat recommended for children
and other pets?
- Cost of care - A single cat will cost around $400
each year for food, litter, and routine medical care. Can you afford
that amount, or more for special medical care?
- Application and Interview
- The purpose of the application is to match the cat's needs with the
appropriate environment. When you have completed your application, one of
our volunteers will interview you personally, to go over the information
you have listed.
- Home Visit
– A visit to your home is required to ensure that you can provide a safe,
loving environment for the cat you wish to adopt. All members of the
household are required to attend. Care and behavioral training principles
will be discussed.
- Adoption Contract
– Upon completion of a satisfactory home visit, the contract finalizes the
adoption process. When the contract is signed, you will be asked to make a donation of $125 for
one cat, or $200 for two cats. Once the
donation is
made, you will receive the cat’s medical records.
