Cody

Small and cute, our Cody gets lots of attention at adoption events, but everyone loses interest when we tell them about his seizure disorder. The idea of daily medication and the possibility of witnessing a seizure seems to be too much for most potential adopters. If you’re one of those rare people who believes that even dogs with medical problems deserve loving, caring homes, please come to meet Cody. You’ll find him so sweet, friendly and happy that you’ll forget about his imperfections. Cody would be great for a couple or a family with older children.

Donella
Breed: Chow/Schipperke mix

Donella

Beautiful Donella has been with us for quite a long time.  After having spent most of her life on her own before being picked up by animal control, Donella has the reserved personality of a typical Chow, or a typical cat! Even with her long-term foster mom, Donella is consistently serious, aloof and independent, so she is not the dog for everyone. Donella is best suited for a single person or couple who is familiar with, and appreciates, the Chow personality.

Galen

Galen was adopted out in 2006, but his new person wasn't willing to continue her commitment to this wonderful boy when he developed a painful mouth infection. Galen is a calm and easygoing companion. He loves to play with his tennis ball or his special stuffed toy, go for a romp at the local dog park or just lay at your feet. Galen needs to have regular dental care (tooth brushing and check-ups) to avoid a recurrence of his dental problem, and he deserves to find a home with someone who is willing to make this commitment. In return, he will be your devoted friend for life.

The Hensley Family is Galen's Guardian Angel! Would you like to be a Guardian Angel, too? Click here to learn more.

  Ingrid—ADOPTION PENDING!
Breed: Puggle
Sex: Female
Age: ~ 18 mos.
Size: Small
Good with other dogs   Good for an apartment   House trained

Ingrid came from a rural shelter along with Barney. She is a Puggle, a "designer dog" mix of Pug and Beagle. Sweet and friendly, Ingrid is, at about 15 lbs, the perfect size for an apartment or condo. Her foster mom says that Ingrid is a love bug, happy to sit next to you and be petted. Sweet, friendly and happy, her tail wags all the time. Ingrid enjoys playing with the other dogs in her foster home, but isn't high energy. Ingrid would fit into almost any family.

Please note that due to her size, Ingrid will not be adopted to homes with young children.

Mindy—ADOPTION PENDING!
Breed: English Shepherd mix
Sex: Female
Age: ~ 8 mos
Size: Medium when grown
Good with other dogs   Good with cats

Mindy and her brother Max (ADOPTED!) came from a rural shelter. From their colors and markings, we think they are English Shepherd mixes, and both should be about 40-45 lbs when full-grown. Mindy's foster mom writes: "Mindy is a typical puppy, full of energy and willing to give lots of love! She loves to play fetch and usually brings it back to me. Sometimes, she teases and goes past me then comes back...she's quite a character. Mindy is good with my cats, but they don't take any nonsense from her. They hiss and she's respectful and backs up. She minds pretty well and knows 'sit,' and 'down.' 'Stay' is hard for her but I'm working on it. Mindy's housetraining is coming along; she can go all night and doesn't mess, and she's not in the crate at night at all. Mindy loves to play outside and is very good at getting dirty; she loves to dig holes in the yard and then she tries to drag the water bowl over to make mud pies!"  Mindy would be a great addition to an active family.

Pepe
Breed: Chihuahua
Sex: Male
Age: ~ 5 yr
Size: Small
Crate trained   Good for an apartment   Good with other dogs

Pepe

Pepe came from a local shelter after being picked up as a stray. Pepe is a great dog; a confident, independent little guy that loves to cuddle with his foster family, snuggling up with the teenagers when they watch TV. He also likes to watch his foster mom file her nails, sitting on her lap and following the path of the file with his eyes! Although he gets along fine with the other dogs in the house, Pepe can be happy playing by himself, throwing his toy around or rolling on his blanket. When he's ready for a break from the family and playing, he goes to "his" space for a rest. Although he is crate-trained, he prefers being gated into a bedroom with his toys and blanket. Pepe only barks to alert you if someone is at the door, so he would be a great choice for apartment living.

Please note that due to his size, Pepe will not be adopted to homes with young children.

  Sadie
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
Sex: Female
Age: 3 yrs.
Size: Medium
House trained   High energy   Crate trained

Sadie

Sadie is a  purebred red Australian Cattle Dog that we rescued from a shelter. She was given up by her caretaker because she and their other dog didn't get along. Sadie is very sweet and friendly and submissive to people, but because she may be possessive of her people in a home situation, we feel that she needs to be the only animal. And although Sadie would probably be fine with older kids (12+), we think she would do best in an all-adult household that can give her the attention she craves. Cattle Dogs are a working breed, and she will need exercise and a place to run off her energy, so a large fenced yard would be ideal.

Helen Simmons and her dog Cattle Dog/Red Heeler Amber are Sadie's Guardian Angels! Would you like to be a Guardian Angel, too? Click here to learn more.

Speckles

Speckles, a Setter/Pointer mix, came from a shelter in Kentucky, where he was picked up as a terrified stray. Speckles is now a happy, friendly and affectionate guy, although he can be initially shy with new people. He warms up quickly to women, but is sometimes more cautious with men. Speckles was adopted out last year, but was returned a year later when the family decided that Speckles wasn't suited for them. Unfortunately, Speckles had gained a lot of weight during that year, so he is now in need of Jenny Craig! An all-adult home, or one with older children, would be ideal for Speckles. And while he seems to get along with larger dogs, small dogs and cats annoy him, so we think he would be best in a home without other animals. Speckles needs someone who will manage his food intake, give him regular exercise, and take the time to show him how love can make a dog's life wonderful.

Speckles desperately needs a foster home! Click here for more information on fostering.
