Furry Suits Rescue
needs your help. Although we would like for everyone
who visits this website to adopt a homeless animal, we realize that
not everyone is able to do so. Sometimes rental agreements,
allergies, travel schedules or other constraints make adoption
impossible. There are many other ways for you to support our
work, though. Click on the links below to find out
more about these opportunities to help:
We invite you to join us as a volunteer.
We have need
of volunteers for everything from assisting at adoption
events to planning fundraising events. If you would like to
volunteer on an irregular basis, we need helpers at our
events throughout the year. Volunteering with us is a
great way to earn community service hours, and it's fun, too! Click
here to see some photos of volunteers at
our events, and click

special events
we have on our schedule.

Do you love animals, but your lifestyle or budget doesn't allow you
to bring one into your home on a permanent basis? Or perhaps you
already have a cat or dog, but you want to find a way to help
another needy animal. Become a foster parent!
Fostering is a wonderful way to save the life of a
homeless animal. If you can open your home on a
temporary basis, you could become a Foster Parent for
a dog or cat.
A
foster home provides the love and nurturing that the animal needs to be able
to find a new home, and Furry Suits Rescue provides veterinary care as well
as food, toys, and treats, if necessary. A dog foster family agrees
to bring the dog to an
adoption event at least twice a month, while a cat foster family
may opt to have potential adopters visit the cat in their home.
The
success of Furry Suits Rescue depends on the availability of temporary homes or foster homes for
our dogs and cats to live in until they find their new, permanent home.
Boarding kennels are prohibitively expensive, and every dollar that
we spend on boarding kennel fees is a dollar that we don't have to
help another deserving animal.
We also need Short-Term Foster Homes, for those situations when we
have the opportunity to help an animal, but no foster home available
for a week or two.
If you are
interested in fostering any of our deserving dogs or cats, our Foster Home Application is online
here.

Financial assistance is an ongoing
necessity. Without money, Furry Suits Rescue
cannot fulfill its mission to assist needy companion animals. While we have
a number of fundraising events throughout the year, we depend on the
generosity of people like you to continue to provide care for the animals.

A
bequest
to Furry Suits Rescue through your Will or Trust helps
ensure that we can continue to carry out our mission for animals in
need. By remembering
Furry Suits Rescue
in your estate planning, you can leave a legacy that will
benefit future generations of animals and help provide for
our future work. The federal government encourages these
gifts or bequests, by allowing an unlimited estate tax
charitable deduction.
There are various
methods for making such a bequest.
A specific
bequest allows you to leave a specified gift in the
form of a cash distribution. To make such a bequest use
the following language: “I give, devise and bequeath to
Furry Suits Rescue, P.O. Box 21, Herndon, VA 20172, the sum of (insert amount) to be used for its
general purposes.”
A residuary
bequest allows you to leave a “remainder” of a
percentage of your estate to Furry Suits Rescue.
To make a residuary use the following language: “I give,
devise and bequeath to Furry Suits Rescue, P.O. Box
21, Herndon, VA 20172, all (insert percentage
amount) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate,
to be used for its general purposes.”
A contingency
bequest allows you to make a gift contingent on
certain circumstances. To make a contingency bequest use
the following language: “If any of the above-named
beneficiaries should predecease me, I hereby bequeath his
or her share to Furry Suits Rescue, P.O. Box 21, Herndon, VA
20172, to be used for its general
purposes.”
If you already
have a Will, you can use the suggested wording to write a
codicil (an addendum) that names Furry Suits Rescue
a beneficiary of your estate.

Dogs
seem to be happy all the time, with no worries, no cares, living
every day to the fullest. How do they do this? In his book
Lessons to Live By: The Canine Commandments, W. R. Pursche
examines how dogs live and translates their way of life into lessons
for us to live by.
Unlike other negative ‘rules’ that are often thrown at us (“Don’t do
this! Don’t do that!”) these lessons are all appealingly positive.
More than just a book of dog quotes or stories, and filled with
examples from everyday life,
Lessons to Live By: The Canine Commandments plainly shows how we
can all benefit from the wisdom of dogs.
Whether or not you have a dog, these memorable
life lessons from dogs will provide you or someone you know with a
straightforward and uncomplicated approach to living a happier and
more fulfilling life.
Also available are Canine
Commandments t-shirts, dog t-shirts and coffee mugs. If you click on
a link above and designate Furry Suits Rescue, Mr. Pursche will
generously the net proceeds from the sale to us. These items make
great gifts for a dog lover!
Is eBay bookmarked on your computer? Sales on eBay can now benefit
Furry Suits Rescue. Individuals who sell items on eBay can donate from 10 percent to 100 percent of the final sales price to
help us rescue and find homes for companion animals.
The donations are made through
MissionFish, a nonprofit organization specializing in online charitable auctions. Items for sale will be posted through
MissionFish,
and they will also appear on all other listings on eBay. Items will be identified on eBay as Giving Works items, and marked with a charity ribbon icon
so buyers will know they are supporting a good cause. In fact, buyers tend to trust charity sellers more and these items sell for more than non-charity listings. In addition, Giving Works items appear in three eBay categories for the price of one: the category one selects, the eBay Giving Works category and on the
MissionFish
nonprofit
homepage.
To take advantage of this new donation opportunity, follow these steps:
1. Visit
MissionFish
and register as a seller 2. Choose an item to sell
3. Write an item title and description
4. List your item on
eBay
and indicate what
percentage of the sale price will benefit "Furry
Suits Rescue"
6. Complete your transaction—MissionFish
collects your donation and passes it on to us.
